Client
Global Mechanism (GM), based in Rome, is a subsidiary of the UN Convention to Combat Desertification. It’s the first international treaty to recognize the link between poverty and environmental degradation and to emphasize the need for an integrated approach to natural resource management and rural development. They provide specialized financial advisory services, up scaling finance for Sustainable Land Management (SLM).
Objective
GM needed a website aimed mainly at the donor community. Entities such as multilateral and bilateral donor agencies, private companies, NGO bodies, research institutions etc. A revamped look and feel was required for the division, something less typical of the traditional UN brand and closer in terms of web design to the world of merchant banking.
Solution
The website was a truly multinational effort, which led to us working with an Italian design agency and a German e-marketing agency. Delivering web design and build, Pod1 came up with a simple construct for a very wide user base, one that would ‘allow users to complete other tasks when browsing the website’, which was one of the brief’s stipulations. The focus of the web design is on usability in a content rich website and the highest possible coding standards mean the site’s accessibility standards are second-to-none. Deadlines were tight but even while waiting for the new brand to be created and agreed upon in Italy, Pod1 was able to begin work on the back-end and deliver the project within the specified time.
Result
The site was launched on-brief, on-budget and on time. As part of an ongoing relationship between GM and Pod1 increasing functionality will be added to the site over the next 12 months. “The selection of a dynamic web company was at the core of our website creation process. Pod1’s commitment and professionalism was key to the deployment of a successful website” GM’s Communications and Web Coordinator, Maurizio Navarra
