Client
Uniqlo is Japan’s leading retailer of casual clothing and now has more than 760 stores worldwide. The company has recently undergone a major global re-brand and re-launch, with stores opening in New York’s Soho area and London’s High Street Kensington and Knightsbridge, and soon in Oxford Street
Objective
Pod1 has been working with Uniqlo since 2002, when the clothing giant initially approached them to optimise its impact on the Internet. This fast-growing company needed a reliable yet dynamic digital partner that could establish and implement a long-term online strategy. Five years down the line, Uniqlo made the decision to trade online and again turned to Pod1 to develop a high-impact website that would successfully launch it into the world of online shopping
Solution
Having working closely with Uniqlo’s PR and marketing teams for years, Pod1 had a keen insight into the Uniqlo brand and created a site that delivers the same high level of service found in Uniqlo’s stores. A major feature of the site is Pod1’s proprietary ‘Single Page Checkout’ – making Uniqlo the first UK e-commerce site to use an Ajax-based one-page checkout. This drastically limits customer drop-off during the buying process by condensing the entire checkout process onto one easy page. The site is also designed to be accessed by the widest audience, regardless of whether they have JavaScript or Flash. A ‘quick-buy’ function was also incorporated to speed up online shopping, allowing customers to add items to their shopping bag without being diverted from the product listing – a near virtual-reality shopping experience
Result
The new website that Pod1 created has not only afforded Uniqlo the ultimate launch into online trading, it also reinforces the brand’s designer image. The Single Page Checkout process is forecast to deliver conversion rates that are up to 50% higher than multiple-page formats. In addition, the ‘quick-buy’ function, sophisticated search facilities and extra-fine zoom feature that allows customers to search and view garments in fantastic detail have resulted in the creation of a truly innovative, effective, high-impact on-brand website that recently won NMA site of the week.
“Our move to online trading was a huge step that was made remarkably simply thanks to our long-standing relationship with Pod1 and its expertise in this field. The value of having access to creative inspiration, technical expertise and vast experience all in one agency cannot be overstated.”
